Standard Builders relocates HQ to Wethersfield office park

A growing construction company has moved its headquarters from Newington to an office twice as large in Wethersfield’s Putnam Park.

Standard Builders, a construction manager and general contractor, recently moved into a 14,000-square-foot space in the modern riverfront office complex at 100 Great Meadow Road.

The deal was brokered by Larry Levere of Sentry Commercial.

Putnam Park contains 160,000 square feet of Class A office space and has amenities that include river views, a restaurant off the main lobby and an atrium.

It’s a significant upgrade for Standard Builders, which was previously housed at 52 Holmes Road in a Newington industrial park.

“We outgrew it,” said Robert J. Sullivan, chairman of the board at Standard Builders, and former company president.

Sullivan said the business is growing and has doubled its revenue over the last five years. The company focuses on three markets: healthcare, commercial and institutional (such as libraries, athletic facilities, cafeterias and laboratories).

“We think it is a pretty unique approach, we’ve focused on a certain part of the market that we think is underserved, and we only do work in the private markets,” Sullivan said. “We don’t do public works projects. And it’s been resonating with customers.”

Standard Builders will retain the 52 Holmes Road property, which it owns, for its field operations division.

The business has about 120 employees, twice as many as in 2018, said Josh Sullivan, company president and Robert Sullivan’s son.

Standard Builders, established in 1949, also has a location in Waltham, Massachusetts, which focuses on the Boston market.
