Stamford landlord pays $75K for lead paint

Stamford landlord Garden Homes Management Corp. has agreed to pay a $54,644 civil penalty and complete a $20,000 replacement project over lead-paint containing windows at its property in Bridgeport.

The settlement comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Paint Disclosure Rule requiring landlord to provide information about lead-based paint to tenants upon leading housing built before 1978.

The EPA alleges Garden Homes failed to provide this information when leasing 18 residential units at nine properties.

Lead paint can hinder infants and young children’s development, which can lead to learning disabilities and behavioral problems, the EPA said.
