Stamford Health last week marked the official opening of its news Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Unit in renovated space on the second floor of Stamford Health’s Whittingham Pavilion.
The unit is the third project funded by an earlier $20 million gift from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. Two earlier projects were the Cohen Pediatric Emergency Department at the new Stamford Hospital, and the Cohen Children’s Specialty Center at Tully Health Center, about five minutes from the hospital. All three are under the umbrella of the Cohen Children’s Institute.
The new inpatient unit is decorated with a whimsical “under-the-sea” theme featuring nautical designs, ocean colors and bright fish. It includes 10 all-private patient rooms with individual bathrooms. The new unit also includes an area for siblings to play, a kitchen, family lounge and a private consultation room.
Children can also order from a special menu with kid-friendly food options and access games, internet and educational information via the GetWellNetwork.
