Stamford-based genetic-testing firm GeneDx Holdings Corp. surpassed $100 million in revenue for the first time in the second quarter of 2025 while reporting its fourth-consecutive profitable quarter.
GeneDx, formerly known as Sema4, said second-quarter revenues grew to $102.7 million, up 49% year-over-year. The increase was driven in part by growth in exome and genome test revenue, which rose to $85.9 million, a year-over-year increase of 69%.
Adjusted net income for the quarter was $15 million, compared to an adjusted net loss of $2 million in the second quarter of 2024. GeneDx said its GAAP net income for the second quarter was $10.8 million.
The profit improved in part because its adjusted total operating expenses were $57.8 million, representing 56% of revenue in the second quarter of 2025, compared to 65% of revenue a year earlier.
The company also noted that its revenue growth was paralleled by a “major change in pediatric healthcare.” In June, and for the first time since 2014, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updated its guidance on how to evaluate children with global developmental delay (GDD) or intellectual disability (ID).
AAP announced it now recommends pediatricians use exome and genome testing as first-line testing for children with GDD or ID.
GeneDx said the pediatric market is a $2.5 billion market opportunity and the updated guidance from AAP will benefit patients and providers while also being “a boon for GeneDx’s business.”
Based on that, the company raised its full-year guidance to deliver between $400 million and $415 million in revenue, up from $360 million to $375 million, with between 48% to 52% full-year growth in exome and genome revenue.
During the second quarter, GeneDx also acquired California-based genomics software company Fabric Genomics for up to $51 million.
Genomics is a branch of molecular biology concerned with the structure, function, evolution and mapping of genomes, or an organism’s DNA information.
