The Stamford Zoning Board has unanimously approved a plan by luxury home builder Toll Brothers to build 56 townhouses across 13 buildings on a property formerly occupied Playtex Corp.
Toll Northeast V Inc. proposed constructing the multifamily development on 8.6 acres at 700 Fairfield Ave. The project involves razing a two-story, 145,538-square-foot office building on-site that once housed Platex’s headquarters, which relocated to North Carolina in 2002.
The building, which later served as Daymon Worldwide’s headquarters, has several tenants but is mostly unoccupied, according to plans filed with the city.
Toll Brothers is under contract to buy the building, which was constructed in 1979, and surrounding property from Realview of Connecticut Inc. Realview bought the property in November 2012 for $1.88 million, records show.
Each townhome will include three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms and range from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet, the application stated. Each unit will have a two-car garage with a driveway that can accommodate two vehicles, an open lawn area and a private patio.
“The architecture reflects a simple and elegant palette drawing from a coastal transitional aesthetic,” the application said.
The development will have a 2,100-square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center and a kitchenette, an outdoor pool and child play area.
Toll Brothers will pay a $2.14 million fee to the city instead of designating 10% of the townhouses as below-market-rate units, per the city’s zoning regulations.
The national developer
plans to build apartments along the city’s Long Ridge Corridor.
