St. Francis settles civil claim for $516K

St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center will pay $516,527 to settle claims it overbilled Medicare for drug injections to treat prostate cancer and fibroids, federal authorities say.

The Connecticut U.S. attorney’s office in New Haven alleged the Hartford hospital improperly billed Medicare from 2001 to 2009 for injections of leuprolide acetate — branded Lupron or Lupron Depot  — to treat prostate cancer in men, and endometriosis and fibroids in women.

St. Francis did not admit liability, the office said.
