St. Francis gets two hyperbaric chambers

St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center’s Mount Sinai campus in Hartford has purchased two hyperbaric chambers, which doubles its patient treatment capacity, according to the New York company that installed the chambers.

The chambers allow patients to breathe pure oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure, a technique used to treat wounds, carbon monoxide intoxication, gas embolisms and other conditions.

Dr. Laurie Anne Loiacono, director of the hospital’s Center for Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine, said the chambers are needed to keep pace with demand. The companies did not say what the devices cost.

Life Support Technologies Group of Tarrytown, N.Y., installed the chambers.
