Square Peg Pizzeria will become the new operator of the restaurant at the East Hartford Golf Club, bringing the fast-growing chain to its founder’s hometown, the town of East Hartford announced.
East Hartford native Jay Maffe launched the first Square Peg Pizzeria in Glastonbury in 2019. It has now grown to six locations in Connecticut, with another in Delray Beach, Florida.
Square Peg Pizzeria plans to renovate the existing dining space, creating a modern, casual atmosphere, according to the announcement.
A soft opening is scheduled for the second weekend in August, with a limited menu. The pizzeria will serve golfers and the general public.
Offerings will include breakfast items such as egg sandwiches and wraps, as well as coffee. For lunch and dinner, the menu will feature Detroit-style pizza, grinders, hot dogs and burgers.
After the golf season ends, the eatery will close for about a month to overhaul the kitchen and install wood ovens, which are a hallmark of Square Peg Pizzeria. The menu will also be expanded.
Maffe said he’s excited to return to East Hartford and partner with the town and Troon Golf Management, which manages East Hartford Golf Club.
Mayor Connor S. Martin welcomed the new partnership,
“I want to thank everyone for your patience as we looked for a sustainable and mutually beneficial solution to the restaurant operator at the East Hartford Golf Course,” Martin said.
Square Peg is also looking into expanding amenities at the golf course, such as offering both indoor and outdoor dining and beverage cart attendants.
