Spirit Airlines dropping recently launched Bradley-to-Jamaica flight in June

Spirit Airlines is ending its service from Bradley International Airport to Jamaica next month due to low demand, the company confirmed today, less than a year after the non-stop route launched.

The airline said the final day of its route from Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica will be June 6.

Customers who purchased tickets for flights scheduled after that date will be given refunds, the company said.

“We put forward our best effort to establish this unique connection between Connecticut and Jamaica. Unfortunately, we made the difficult decision to discontinue this particular route because of lower-than-expected demand,” company officials said in a statement.

The route was first offered by the airline in December.

While the Jamaica route is ending at Bradley, Spirit is launching a nonstop route to another Caribbean island, Puerto Rico, June 7. The new service to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, will operate year-round, three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the company said earlier this year.

In addition, it operates non-stop service to Fort Myers, Florida, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Orlando, Florida,  and Tampa, Florida.
