SPECIAL NEEDS FIELD A BASEBALL ‘MIRACLE’

West Hartford is well on the way to having a baseball field especially designed for children with special needs. Residents Mike Michaud, Ronit Shoham and Scott Franklin have established an organization called the Miracle League of Greater Hartford with a goal of getting the $600,000 project built this summer. The plan includes a versatile rubberized surfaced baseball field and a playground assessable to all at the UConn baseball/softball facility in West Hartford. The field will be wheelchair accessible and the first of its kind in New England. It can also be used for baseball, soccer and other youth sports. The League has already raised almost $250,000 and needs $52,000 more to begin construction. Rosenberg Orthodontics is the latest to come aboard, pledging the profits from the next 13 patients of Invisalign teeth straightening. The dental practice is the only elite Invisalign provider in Greater Hartford, a status conferred upon the top 1 percent of Invisalign users in the nation. There are approximately 200 Miracle League Chapters across the country, of which about 160 have rubberized baseball fields. Pictured is a Miracle League field in Puerto Rico, which is the model for West Hartford.
