Sovereign opens downtown Hartford branch

Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez joined Sovereign Bank leaders in cutting the ribbon on a $4 million community branch at 115 Asylum downtown.

The 3,100-square-foot branch has five teller stations and two ATMs, and employs nine people.  In addition to the banking office, Sovereign occupies two additional floors that serve as the company’s regional commercial banking office.

“This is our gift to Hartford,” said Kevin Flaherty, Connecticut Commercial Banking Market President for Sovereign Bank.  “We believe in investing in the communities where we work and live and look forward to serving customers in our new offices.”

The Hartford banking office is also designated as a business banking center, serving small to medium-sized companies.  The branch will provide a special teller line exclusively for business customers.

The grand opening ceremony included a $5,000 check presented from the Sovereign Bank Foundation to Hartford Stage.
