Southington toolmaker carves European path

Southington gardening-pruning tool maker American Standard Company Inc. has signed a reciprocal distribution agreement with one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of tree- and shrub-pruning shears.

American Standard was named exclusive U.S. and Canada distributor for Leyat Pruning Tools of Switzerland.

In turn, Leyat will exclusively market American Standard’s Florian Ratchet-Cut line of hand shears in Great Britain, Switzerland, and the European Union.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This is an excellent opportunity for both companies to expand their product lines into new markets,” said American Standard President Sean Florian.
