Southington medical building plans approved

The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission has approved plans for a 7,000-square-foot medical office and retail building at 1175 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

Property owner Richard E. Frazier  Sr. at the board’s Jan. 3 meeting gained unanimous approval for his plans to demolish a multi-unit residential structure on the parcel and build the new medical office space.

Plans call for 3,500 square feet each of retail and medical space, but Frazier ultimately wants the entire building to be medical space, said Severino Bovino, vice president of Kratzert, Jones, & Associates, the engineers for the applicant.

The site would have 34 parking spaces to accommodate medical clients.

The entrance to the complex would be off Tridell Drive. The building would have signage on Tridell, and not be highly visible from the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

“There would be doctors with appointments only, so it’s a destination site that people will be looking for,” Bovino said.

He said the building would hold a maximum of two or three tenants. It is not known if any clients are lined up for the new building.
