South Windsor, Capitol region win social media award

The towns of South Windsor and Ledyard and the Capitol Region Council of Governments have each won $8,000 worth of consulting services to utilize social media to extend their marketing outreach and two-way communications with the public.

The Economic Development Department of Connecticut light & Power and Yankee Gas – both part of Northeast Utilities – selected the two towns and the nonprofit planning group representing 23 towns in Greater Hartford from a group of 16 applicants.

After 12 months of consulting with Atlas Advertising, a Colorado-based firm, the three participants will share their lessons learned with other communities.

“Social media applications are just beginning to make their mark in municipal and nonprofit management circles,” said Douglas G. Fisher, manager of Economic Development and Community Relations for CL&P and Yankee Gas, in a statement. “It’s important that Connecticut stay abreast of these developments and be seen as a place where innovation continues to happen.”
