Soltage installs solar at St. Luke’s

Solar energy installer Soltage, LLC, with offices in Hartford, finished on Wednesday a 150-kilowatt solar panel array at Stamford non-profit St. Luke’s Lifeworks.

The 488-panel photovoltaic array has been completed and is operational, but the charity and Soltage officially launched it on Wednesday at the Center for Children and their Families. The building is home to St. Luke’s family shelter and transitional housing program, education and employment program, youth services program and administrative offices.

The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund contributed $542,849 toward the solar installation, which will be owned and operated by Soltage for the next 15 years. Over those years, St. Luke’s can purchase the electricity at a 17 percent discount and then will assume ownership of the system.

“Even through this harsh winter, the solar installation has been operating as we had hoped,” St. Luke’s CEO Jason Shaplen said in a statement. “It’s a win-win situation for us. We’re able to go green and help preserve the environment. We also pay less for electricity, allowing us to put the money we save towards our mission to help people move from the streets to health, jobs, and homes.”

Soltage is headquartered in New Jersey but operates a satellite office on Pratt Street in Hartford. Its other installations in Connecticut include Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.’s facility in Stratford and Pilgrim Furniture City in Milford.
