SolarCity winning market share war

California installer SolarCity, with offices in Connecticut, installed nearly a third of all U.S. residential solar systems in the third quarter of 2013, according to Boston-based GTM Research.

SolarCity, which operates out of a Rocky Hill office in Connecticut, installed almost four times as much as its closest national competitor, Vivint Solar of Utah.

GTM cites SolarCity’s ability to raise public capital and strike partnerships with key companies for its success in installing throughout the United States where there are strong rebate programs, like in Connecticut.

Connecticut and eight other states – California, Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Arizona, New Jersey, Maryland, and New Mexico – represented 60 percent of all installed solar capacity in the country, according to GTM.
