Solar industry honors NU project

A subsidiary of Hartford’s Northeast Utilities received national industry recognition for its 1.8 megawatt solar facility in Massachusetts.

The Solar Electric Power Association and the Solar Energy Industries Association gave their photovoltaic projects of distinction award to NU subsidiary Western Massachusetts Electric Co. The project – the Silver Lake Solar Facility in Pittsfield, Mass. – was one of three honored nationally out of 150 submissions.

The award recognizes the company’s achievements in working with contractors to install more than 6,500 ground-mounted solar photovoltaic panels.

The Silver Lake Solar Facility was the first step in Western Massachusetts Electric Co.’s plan to install more than 6 megawatts of solar electric in Massachusetts. The company is looking at its next site in Springfield.
