Solar company owner to expand commercial building to store vintage car collection

The owner of a Stamford-based solar company is seeking approval to significantly expand a commercial building in Bethel to house a personal collection of more than 100 vintage automobiles, according to project plans filed with the town.

75 Express CT LLC, controlled by Kenny Habul of Greenwich, plans to expand the building at 16-18 Trowbridge Road from 30,320 square feet to 75,186 square feet, according to an application before Bethel’s Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposal also includes about 40,600 square feet of parking and a rear patio.

Habul is CEO of SunEnergy1, a solar developer with projects across the U.S. He purchased the property earlier this year for $2.5 million, according to town records.

James Dimeo, a Derby-based engineer representing the project, said the expanded building would be used to store Habul’s private car collection.

Dimeo said several other owners in the Francis J. Clarke Industrial Park have converted buildings into storage space for vehicle collections, citing the area’s low traffic and industrial setting.

Habul did not respond to a request for comment.
