Soft Tissue Regeneration, an early-stage New Haven bioscience company, said its artificial knee ligament has been awarded a U.S. patent.
Soft Tissue announced last month the start of a Food & Drug Administration clinical to test the safety of its L-C Ligament, an investigational device it describes as a synthetic bioresorbable scaffold meant to stabilize the knee after ACL reconstruction surgery. The artificial ligament is made with a degradable polymer and is designed to regenerate the patient’s own ligament tissue.
The first patient received an implant on June 18 in The Netherlands. The company said the patient is recovering well and has started physical therapy.
