Small Businesses SCORE With Free Advice

To The Editor:

For small business owners or those with dreams of someday owning their own business, free confidential business counseling is available from SCORE, a resource partner of the Small Business Administration.

There are 14 SCORE locations in the Greater Hartford region, including one in downtown Hartford, where entrepreneurs may receive business mentoring and training from volunteers who donate their time and expertise to advise small business owners. They include working and retired business owners as well as executives and managers, all willing to share their real-world knowledge and experiences. Our members have provided more than 1,250 hours of counseling advice to Hartford area businesses this year.

SCORE business counselors have particular expertise in business planning and help work through the detailed and time consuming task of preparing a business plan, complete with financial projections.

In addition to providing free counseling and mentoring, SCORE also offers low-cost education to small business owners in the area. Our day-long Basic Business Seminars are held 11 times a year on the third Tuesday of each month. The next seminar will be held Oct. 21 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

We encourage preregistration online at our Web site, hartfordscore.org. More information is also available by asking for SCORE at (860) 240-4700.

All other programs are offered in response to identified needs.

Our main branch shares a location with the Small Business Administration’s Hartford office at 330 Main St.

We are ready to help small business owners achieve their dreams. Our mission is based on the belief that what is good for small business is good for the community.
