Bloomfield nonprofit Operation Fuel provided $779,000 in grants to 779 Connecticut businesses to promote energy conservation.
Operation Fuel launched its Project/BEST program a year ago in Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, New London, and Bridgeport to help offset rising energy expenses and introduce conservation measures.
Each business received $1,000, and each attended an energy efficiency workshop on programs available to help reduce expenses.
The project was funded by a $1 million grant from Dominion Resources, Inc., which owns and operates the nuclear Millstone Power Station in Waterford, and $150,00 from the Public Service Enterprise Group, which owns and operates the Bridgeport Harbor and New Haven Harbor Generation Stations.
Operation Fuel hopes to expand the project beyond into other Connecticut cities in 2013.
