Small banquet hall planned for former Newington VFW building

A Newington resident is proposing a new banquet hall in the former VFW site at 85 Kitts Lane in town.

Mike Pizzuto is seeking a special permit from the town Planning and Zoning Commission to operate The Lincoln Room, in the former VFW banquet and social hall building.
The new Lincoln Room can hold up to 100 guests and will be available to rent and serve prepared food, with no cooking done on the premises, according to the application.

The 2,800-square-foot building is owned by Dillys Properties and principal Dale Hume-Rimai.

Several towns in Greater Hartford are seeing applications for smaller banquet halls, including Windsor Locks and Vernon. The aim is to allow for smaller gatherings of a few dozen people at a more affordable cost where guests can bring their own food, personalize the decorations and face shorter wait times compared to booking larger or more traditional banquet halls.
