Skirvin is Bob’s Discount CEO

Michael Skirvin has been promoted to chief executive officer of Manchester retailer Bob’s Discount Furniture.

Skirvin, president and chief operating officer since 2011, succeeds Ted English, who was CEO for a decade. English was named executive chairman and will remain active in the 69-store chain’s daily operations, the company said Thursday.

“Mike is an exceptional and talented retail executive who has played an indispensable role over the last four years in helping build Bob’s Discount Furniture into a rapidly growing value retailer with a highly differentiated concept that has the potential for national reach,” English said in a statement. “… I look forward to continuing to partner with Mike on the next phase of the Bob’s Discount Furniture journey.”

Before landing at Bob’s five years ago, Skirvin held a variety of leadership roles at fashion retailer TJX Cos. (parent to Marshall’s and T.J. Maxx), including serving as operations chief of the A.J. Wright store division from 2007 to 2010.
