Skip Barber racing school consolidating in Ga.

The Skip Barber Racing School is consolidating its main headquarters and corporate staff in Georgia, leaving its Connecticut operations unaffected, The Associated Press reports.

Barber’s Connecticut operations in the Lakeville section of Kent, in the state’s northwest corner, remain in operation, officials told HBJ Today Tuesday.

The school’s instructors rely on a fleet of sports coupes and sedans to teach racing and defensive driving techniques at Barber’s own track adjacent to Lime Rock Raceway.

The AP reports Gov. Nathan Deal has announced that the school in high-performance driving and racing education is relocating and expanding its existing facilities at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. Deal says the move will boost Georgia tourism and attract racing-related automotive companies to the state.

The company is scheduled to host a free Georgia open house on May 12 and complete its expansion this fall.

Skip Barber Racing School is offered at more than 20 race tracks across the nation.
