The Connecticut Siting Council has approved the installation of a 460-kilowatt fuel cell at Norwich Inn and Spa, which is expected to provide for all of the property’s power needs.
The council approved the application from South Windsor-based Doosan Fuel Cell on March 16. Doosan expects to begin construction in April and complete the project in October.
The fuel cell will be owned eastern Connecticut utility CMEEC. Any excess power will go to the electric grid.
Doosan said that the plant will also recover waste heat, which will reduce its carbon emissions from 1,050 pounds per megawatt hour to 815 pounds.
