Simsbury church, hit by declining membership, sells for $750,000

A church in Simsbury has been sold for $750,000 following declining membership, according to a broker involved in the sale.

Ieke and Mark Scully, of Simsbury, have bought the 8,213-square-foot building on 8.5 acres at 7 Wescott Road from the Shepard of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church, according to Bob Gaucher, a senior commercial specialist with broker O,R&L Commercial.

“Due to declining membership, the church decided to sell the property and merge their congregation with another church,” O,R&L said. “Ieke and Mark Scully recognized that the church property had serviced the community well and they purchased the property in hopes of finding a use that would continue to serve the community.”

It wasn’t immediately clear what the Scullys might do with the property.
