Silver/Petrucelli hired for $103M Enfield High redo

Hamden studio Silver/Petrucelli + Associates has been chosen to design Enfield High School’s $103 million expansion and renovation.

The contract value wasn’t disclosed.

Silver said it beat out two other design firms for the engagement that will eventually result in the town combining its two high schools, and closing Enrico Fermi High, due to shrinking enrollment, authorities said.

The consolidated high school will include a new, more than 106,000-square-foot science, technology, engineering, art & math wing; a more than 14,000-square-foot music wing; and expansion of the cafeteria, kitchen, physical education and health departments.

The rest of the school will be fully renovated to current building, disability access, safety and energy-efficiency codes.

Once construction starts in summer 2014, work will take two to three years to complete, officials said.
