Sikorsky sells 12 Black Hawks to Brunei

Stratford helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. formally signed a deal with the Brunei Ministry of Defense to sell 12 Black Hawk helicopters to the southeast Asian country.

Price was not disclosed.

Brunei officially chose the Black Hawk helicopter on Nov. 15 following several months of evaluating competing helicopters.

But the sides did not reach a formal agreement until Wednesday at the Langkawi International Maritine and Air Show in Malaysia, Sikorsky said.

In addition, to the dozen warbirds that will be delivered, starting in 2013, the contract contains an option for 10 more.

Sikorsky agreed to install a Black Hawk air simulator in an unspecified location in southeast Asia, as part of the contract, to help Brunei aircrew become familiar with the helicopter.

Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp., says it has delivered some 3,000 Black Hawk warbirds to militaries in 30 countries.
