Sikorsky secures $120M contract for new Navy helicopters

Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. last week picked up a more than $120.2 million contract from the Navy to aid the building of 21 new heavy transport helicopters, according to new filings from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Sikorsky, a subsidiary of defense industry giant Lockheed Martin Co., will use funds from the contract to procure additional long-lead time materials for the production of 21 CH-53K King Stallion helicopters, the manufacturer’s modern heavy-lift aircraft. Work for the contract will be done in Stratford and is expected to be completed in March 2025, per the DoD.

The Navy also doled out a $13.1 million contract last week to Groton-based General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp. to support nuclear-powered submarines and training ships. Work on the contract will be done at the Naval yard in Groton, DoD said.
