Sikorsky Aircraft Co. has won the Navy’s prestigious “Golden Wrench” award — its eighth in a decade — for outstanding maintenance and repairs to the F-5E jet fighter fleet at a naval reserve squadron in Fallon, Nev.
Sikorsky’s Aerospace Services’ Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (SAS MRO) division, based in Shelton, won the 2010 Maintenance Excellence Award from the Naval Reserve Tactical Support Wing for support of the twin-engine tactical fighters in the VFC-13 Squadron at Fallon. The F-5 has flown in various configurations since 1962.
Sikorsky is a unit of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
SAS MRO and VFC-13 won Golden Wrenches in 2001-2003, 2005-2007, and 2009. SAS MRO’s Key West, Fla., team won the award in 2008.
