Sikorsky hands Curtiss-Wright $16M contract

Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Stratford handed Curtiss-Wright Corp. in New Jersey a contract valued as much as $16 million to supply automated components that fold the rotor blades on Sikorsky’s CH-53K heavy lift helicopters used at sea by the Marine Corps.

Curtiss-Wright, based in Parsippany, N.J., said Monday it will supply Sikorsky with blade fold distributor units for the helicopters. The folding blades allow the airships to be stowed and deployed aboard Marine amphibious ships.

The company also will provide Sikorsky with digital computers that deliver altitude and airspeed data, among things, to the cockpit.

The blade fold parts will be made at Curtiss-Wright’s City of Industry, Calif., plant, while the digital air data computers will be assembled at its Penny & Giles facility in Christchurch, United Kingdom, the company said.
