Sikorsky Aerospace Services in Stratford says the U.S. State Department has ordered 11 additional S-61T utility helicopters for use in Iraq and Afghanistan, The Associated Press reports.
The order will increase the State Department’s fleet of S-61 helicopters to 15.
Terms were not disclosed.
The S-61 helicopter began flying in 1959, serving in the U.S. Navy, Britain’s Royal Navy and other overseas fleets. Sirkorsky has been providing modernized versions of the helicopter since 2008.
Sikorsky Aerospace is part of Sikorsky Aircraft, a division of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
