Stratford technology developer Sikorsky Innovations on Wednesday became the first rotorcraft member of the Aviation Green Alliance, an organization dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of aviation.
Sikorsky Innovations is the research and development organization of Stratford helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., which is a subsidiary of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp.
The Aviation Green Alliance was launched by the Minnesota non-profit Lindbergh Foundation to tackle the environmental challenges of aviation. Other members include Bombardier, Cessna, FedEx, Hawker Beechcraft, Fantasy of Flight, and Jeppesen.
Sikorsky Innovations has worked on a variety of technological solutions to vertical flight problems, including faster helicopters, optionally piloted aircraft, and aware and adaptive aircraft systems.
