Stratford’s Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. said it has delivered the first of 26 S-76D helicopters to a company that transports oil rig workers.
Bristow Group, which flies to rigs in the North Sea, Nigeria and Gulf of Mexico, already flies more than 100 Sikorsky aircraft, according to the company.
Bristow announced in March that it would buy a batch of S-76Ds, which Sikorsky said have faster cruise speeds and are more fuel efficient than other helicopters in the S-76 family of vehicles.
Sikorsky said it has a backlog of $700 million for the new model.
