Stratford-based Sikorsky Aircraft says it’s cutting 1 percent of its global workforce, citing ongoing problems with the global economy and a slump in the market for commercial helicopters, The Associated Press reports.
The maker of commercial and military helicopters said in a brief statement Friday the layoffs affect salaried workers only.
Sikorsky isn’t specifying the number of layoffs or saying where the cuts are being made, but a 1 percent reduction amounts to about 200 layoffs out of more than 20,000 employees worldwide.
The company is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford, which reported in July that second-quarter revenue soared nearly 22 percent at Sikorsky due to strong military business.
