Stratford aerospace manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. will team with the St. Louis division of Boeing to develop the next generation of U.S. military helicopter.
Sikorsky and Boeing Defense, Space & Security signed an agreement in January to submit a joint proposal to the U.S. Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate to deliver a helicopter with better performance, reliability, and affordability.
The two companies will compete to build and fly at least one demonstrator helicopter by 2017 to see the better performance for a medium-sized aircraft.
Sikorsky is a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp. Boeing Defense, Space & Security is a $32 billion subsidiary of Seattle aircraft maker The Boeing Co.
