ShopRite of Southbury undergoes renovations, with completion expected this fall

Renovations are underway at the ShopRite of Southbury as part of an investment by its owner to modernize stores across southwestern Connecticut.

Construction at the store, at 775 Main St. South, is expected to be completed by late fall, according to Cingari Family Markets, which operates the location. The store remains open during the renovation, with most work scheduled overnight.

Thomas Cingari Sr., president and CEO of Cingari Family Markets, said the renovated store will provide an upgraded shopping experience with more fresh food choices, expanded services and sustainable features.

The renovation will expand grab-and-go meal options, including prepared foods, marinated meats and seafood selections such as salmon and scallops. The company will add house-made entrees and sides from its private label line.

The project includes a redesigned produce section featuring locally sourced and seasonal items, plus an updated floral department, the owners said.

The bakery, seafood, deli, meat, dairy and frozen sections will be modernized with a focus on product variety and improved customer flow.

Sustainability upgrades include new energy-efficient refrigeration and freezer units designed to reduce the store’s carbon footprint, along with updated aisle lighting to enhance visibility.

The project is part of Cingari Family Markets’ broader initiative to upgrade stores across the region. Founded in 1929, the family-owned business based in Stamford operates 10 ShopRite locations and two other grocery stores in Connecticut.
