Law firm Shipman & Goodwin, accounting firm Marcum and Green Check Verified are hosting a free networking event Thursday evening for people in or hoping to enter the state’s legal cannabis industry.
The 2022 Cannabis Industry Spotlight & Networking Event is set for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight at Thomas Hooker Live, 1 Sequassen St., Hartford. Thomas Hooker Live is a venue space down the road from the brewery’s Colt building location. The event is free but people can find more information and register here.
According to Sarash Westby, co-chair of Shipman’s cannabis industry practice, the event is primarily for entrepreneurs planning to apply for licensing in one of the state’s many cannabis business categories, from growers and retailers to product packagers and distributors.
There will also be a few speakers throughout the night sharing insights about the application process and what would-be companies should expect.
“The goal is to just bring people together who are going through this process now in Connecticut,” Westby said. “We’ll have people who can discuss some questions, share their challenges and success stories and connect with one another.”
Westby said consultants and advisors will be on-hand during the event to connect with applicants and potential entrepreneurs. She said it will be a casual environment but offer in-depth information about how Connecticut’s industry is shaping up.
Hartford-based Shipman & Goodwin has embraced the state’s legal cannabis industry and represents clients applying for licensing. Marcum, an accounting firm, has also been involved in the local industry by helping advise potential cannabis companies on business development.
Founded in 2017, Green Check Verified is a technology and banking company that enables financial institutions to safely and successfully offer services to legal cannabis businesses. Staff from Green Check will be on hand to discuss banking opportunities for those entering the industry.
Westby said networking events are important to entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry because the market is so new. Shipman also sponsored an event at The Society Room of Hartford hosted by CannaManagement in January.
