Sherwood managing Segarra’s election bid

Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra has tapped veteran New Britain political activist Phil Sherwood to manage Segarra’s campaign for a full term.

“Phil is seasoned, bright and talented,” Segarra said in a statement Tuesday. “He understands the challenges that Hartford faces and I am proud that he has agreed to manage my campaign.”

In turn, Sherwood praised Segarra as “a thoughtful and committed leader whose vision is both inspiring and forward-thinking. ‘’

He said he also supports Segarra’s commitment to making government more accountable and accessible.

Sherwood is a former majority leader of New Britain’s board of alderman. Most recently he was the campaign manager to state Sen. Terry Gerratana, who in the Feb. 22 special election upset New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart’s bid to fill the vacated 6th district state senate seat.

He will  take a leave of absence from the Connecticut Citizen Action Group, where he currently serves as deputy director.
