What do you do?
I am an audit manager and Connecticut Certified Public Accountant for Whittlesey and Hadley, P.C. I specialize in accounting issues for construction, small business, real estate, and employee benefit plans. I remain current on all relevant accounting issues for my clients and sit on firm committees where I am able to collaborate with colleagues and provide expertise. I am actively involved in the business community, represent the firm at key events and serve as a resource to clients and staff. I consider my strong involvement in community service an extension of my career. I am an active volunteer in several organizations including the Greater Hartford Jaycees, the Saint Francis Foundation, and the Travelers Championship PGA tour event.
Please describe your career path.
I am looking to continue my career as a public accountant at Whittlesey and Hadley P.C., with the ultimate goal of becoming a partner in the firm. To get there, I continue to build business relationships both within our current client base and outside our client base, as well as continue to improve my technical accounting skills. It is important to me to be a mentor to my fellow co-workers and community volunteers — a go-to person who people can trust to discuss issues and concerns. I want to continue to be involved with non-profit organizations and aid the community wherever possible.
What’s been your biggest challenge professionally?
Breaking away from the norm. It’s easy to for people to get used to a routine. To succeed in the current business environment, you need to know when to accept and implement change.
Where do you want to be in 10 years?
A successful partner at Whittlesey and Hadley, P.C. Also, I hope to still live in Hartford and still enjoy life.
What is the best advice you received?
Figure out your work life balance. Remain organized to control stress. I recall the words from a movie, “Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.”
How are you involved in your community?
I have served on the Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation Board of Directors for six years, where I am currently chairman of the board. I previously served as treasurer and president of the Jaycees. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that was formed to aid the greater Hartford community through grants and scholarships. The foundation has an endowment of $1.5 million and has granted more than $10 million to the greater Hartford community since its inception in 1971. I have also sat on the executive committee for the Travelers Championship PGA Tour Event for the past three years. The duties of the executive committee are to manage more than 4,000 volunteers at the tournament. I have also served on several other committees including the Saint Francis Foundation’s Young Professionals Committee.
