Seymour seeks stolen $80K tree-grinder

A tub grinder isn’t the kind of item a thief can hide in his pocket. Yet the disappearance of the 40-foot long, 10-foot high machine that grinds large tree trunks into wood chips has Seymour police and officials stumped, The Associated Press reports.

The machine was apparently stolen from the public works yard in Seymour last weekend. It was discovered missing Sunday.

Public Works Director Dennis Rozum says whoever took the behemoth, bought 10 years ago for $80,000, knew exactly what they were doing. They had to know how to hook it up to a truck large enough to haul it.

In response to the theft, the town on Wednesday approved the purchase of a $9,000 video surveillance system for public works yard.
