Seymour will join more than 50 other Connecticut towns and cities that have taken the pledge to improve energy efficiency and promote clean and renewable energy.
By signing up for the Clean Energy Communities program, Seymour is pledging to reduce its energy consumption by 20 percent, in part by allocating at least 20 percent of its municipal electrical needs to renewable energy sources, all by 2018.
Through the project, an Energize Connecticut initiative, Seymour will also have the opportunity to earn points based on their participation which can eventually be traded in for a $10,000 grant to be used for clean-energy project of the town’s choice.
Seymour First Selectman W. Kurt Miller signed the pledge to commit the town to the project, which is administrated by Connecticut Light & Power and the Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority.
