Several Hartford events will draw tens of thousands to the city this weekend

Downtown Hartford is poised for a busy holiday weekend.

With three events planned across the city over the next several days, tens of thousands of people are expected to visit downtown Hartford over the Easter weekend.

The most high-profile event will be the parade for the UConn men’s basketball team, which won its fifth NCAA championship Monday night with its victory over San Diego State University.

The parade on Saturday begins at 11:30 a.m. near the state Capitol building at the intersection of Trinity and Elm streets. It will then proceed north on Trinity Street, go through the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch, turn right onto Jewell Street, turn left onto Trumbull Street, and end at the intersection of Asylum and Trumbull streets.

The parade will shut down road travel along the route and some surrounding streets, according to information from the city.

The Connecticut Convention and Sports Bureau is also hosting the Annual Medical Education Conference at the Connecticut Convention Center this week, which kicked off Wednesday and will continue until Sunday. According to the Hartford Chamber of Commerce, the conference is expected to draw more than 2,000 people during the multi-day event.

In addition, it’s opening day for the Hartford Yard Goats, the AA affiliate of MLB’s Colorado Rockies. The team kicks off its season with a three-game homestand against the Bowie Baysox in Hartford tonight, Friday and Saturday.
