The Connecticut Science Center’s ex-president Ted Sergi will take over as the interim chief executive officer of the MetroHartford Alliance, as longtime CEO R. Nelson “Oz” Griebel steps aside to run for governor.
Sergi, who is also the former state commissioner of education, will lead the Hartford regional chamber of commerce, beginning Feb. 4.
Griebel has agreed to an unpaid leave of absence from the Alliance while he runs for governor, and Sergi will remain the interim CEO as long as Griebel is in the race, the Alliance said.
“The Alliance remains open for business as usual and with Ted as Interim CEO, the organization’s future is indeed very bright,” said Charles W. Shivery, chairman, president and CEO of Northeast Utilities Inc., who is also the chairman of the Alliance.
Sergi left his post at the Science Center in March, shortly after construction on the downtown facility was completed. He was succeeded by the science center’s current president and CEO Matt Fleury.
Sergi was a member of MetroHartford’s board from 2003 to 2008.
