Seized animals on road to recovery

The state Dept. of Agriculture is reporting 30 horses and numerous other animals at Fairy Tail Equine in East Hampton seized last week are on the road to recovery. It’s seeking donations for their care.

The horses, along with two dogs, 78 chickens and 19 rabbits, were removed on Feb. 2 from the Fairy Tail Equine facility after an investigation determined the animals were malnourished, not receiving proper veterinary care and kept in unhealthy conditions, ag officials said at the time.

Now the agriculture department needs help feeding and caring for the animals. Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky said the horses currently require about 50 bales of hay daily, as well as about 40 bags of pine shavings used for bedding. Grain will be introduced as feed as the horses’ conditions improve.

The department maintains an Animal Abuse Recovery Account. Donations can be mailed to Connecticut Department of Agriculture, 165 Capitol Avenue, Room G-8A, Hartford, CT 06106. A GoFundMe page has also been established. More than $11,000 has been raised by the site since the animals’ seizure.
