Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra will accept an award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors recognizing the city’s youth employment program.
The Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program, managed by Capital Workforce Partners, led to the creation of approximately 1,900 jobs this past summer, according to Segarra’s office.
Approximately 300 of those jobs were not subsidized, with area employers agreeing to hire and pay youth workers themselves.
The program was funded by a total of $2 million in private, local and state funding.
The mayors association recognized Segarra’s efforts to fill downtown storefronts with an award in September.
