Robert Killian Jr. is dropping out of the Hartford mayoral race, the Democrat and recently retired probate judge announced Friday afternoon.
Killian said he is endorsing candidate Luke Bronin, an attorney and former general counsel for Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. In doing so, Killian follows the lead of John Gale — an attorney who works in the same Main Street office building as Killian and who endorsed Bronin earlier this month.
Killian’s decision came three days before Hartford Democrats were scheduled to endorse their slate of candidates.
Bronin aims to unseat incumbent Mayor Pedro E. Segarra, who is seeking his second full term in office. City Democrats will decide Monday evening who they will endorse for mayor.
The primary election is scheduled for Sept. 16.
