SEC suspends convicted Htfd. attorney

Federal authorities have suspended felon and former Hartford attorney Corey J. Brinson, following his conviction and license suspension in Hartford Superior Court.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission suspended Brinson’s license to appear or practice before the commission as an attorney based on his conviction earlier this year in a criminal case brought by the Connecticut U.S. attorney.

Brinson, who was sentenced in April to three years in prison, was involved in a “pump-and-dump” stock scheme that cost victims millions.

According to investigators and court records, Brinson, who was inexperienced with securities, signed on as “securities counsel” from Oct. 2010 to last July with several companies whose securities were marketed and sold to investors by Christian Meissenn. Meissenn’s scheme included hawking securities in small or obscure companies to investors as the “next sure moneymaker,” when in fact the firms had little or no products, revenues or profits.
