SEC bans ex-CT securities broker

A former Connecticut securities broker, on top of being sentenced to spend four years in jail for stealing more than $1.35 million from clients, has been banned from the industry, authorities say.

On Monday, the same day Gregory Buchholz of Bridgewater was sentenced in Bridgeport federal court for wire fraud, the Boston regional office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced its ban on him.

Prosecutors say the 45-year-old Buchholz liquidated clients’ annuities and mutual funds and kept the proceeds while working at Raymond James Financial Services.

They say he forged clients’ names, claimed he was reinvesting their money or told other lies to placate them.
