Scott eyed as CT claims commissioner

Legislative attorney Christy Scott is the governor’s choice as the state’s new claims commissioner.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Friday that Scott, of West Hartford, is his nominee to the post vacated in February by J. Paul Vance Jr.

The claims commissioner reviews claims brought against the state to determine whether the state should be held liable in legal actions.

“The function this office provides requires a careful, meticulous process that demands fairness, competence, ethics and respect for the people of Connecticut. I am truly humbled by this nomination,” Scott said in a statement.

Scott has been a lawyer since 2007 in the General Assembly’s House Majority Office, where she advises House Democrats on issues such as constitutional law, parliamentary procedure, ethics and elections law, review of pending legislation, and other legal matters.

Before the legislative post, she was a law clerk in the state Supreme Court, and taught English at Farmington High School. Scott also has served as managing director and legal counsel in the state’s Office of the Child Advocate.

She has a B.A. from Smith College and a law degree from UConn School of Law.
